But this? This I’ve got in spades.
I was going through old emails this morning, and found this one from my Dad, dated from my senior year of college. I actually went through the trouble of seeking out and forwarding this one to myself from my old college email account when it was about to expire. The topic is hardly remarkable; several emails about the status of my deferment were exchanged each semester. In fact, I don’t think the the process for getting my loans and deferments straightened out ever went smoothly while I was in school. Really, I saved this one because it sums up my Dad’s aforementioned sense of humor pretty clearly. I figured I’d need to show proof of inheritance some day. SEE? I GOT IT FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE. STOP BLAMING ME:
roses are red
your teeth are permanent
i happy to say
you got your deferment
love, dad
You can see now that I’ve totally wasted thousands of dollars on an education I clearly don’t need. When next you see me, I’ll be U.S. Poet Laureate.
